The sun is shining, it is a glorious May day, and I only have to work for one more week!  You know when you have that incredible lightness-of-being feeling?

That.  Just that.

I am taking my daughter out to a gorgeous National Trust house with a huge woodland walk, there may be some highly-frowned-upon paddling in the little stream, and I'm sure there will be an enormous unhealthy ice cream at some point.

I have decided my self-imposed hiatus from all fannish and lj-based activities can be relaxed a bit, as it's been over a year since I pulled an all-nighter reading a fic that I just could not put down.  It has been a hell of a year, family-and-friends-wise, both good and bad but mainly bad.  But things are now back on track and apart from the usual too-many-bills-not-enough-money, everything is looking up.

And to celebrate being 'back', I have to rec Dies Irae by AlchemyAlice. This is the way the Apocalypse should have been.

*sigh*

My friend J is getting married in July - WOO-HOO!  I am insanely excited for her, she SO deserves a great life!  And her fiance is a wonderful guy and is besotted by J and her daughter, so - perfect.  Fabulous.

Except.

I gotta get an outfit for the wedding.  And I Don't. Do. Shopping.  Seriously, I buy most of my stuff from thrift shops; my clothes are not old and threadbare - far from it, most of them are good labels, and new or new-ish to boot, but they're not the height of fashion either.  I'm not short of cash, but I just don't see the point in spending big bucks on clothes, when I know exactly what I like.  So I've got two other friends who have offered to "Take Me Shopping" for - wait for it - A DRESS.  Now, see, the last time I wore a dress was when hubby retired after 20 years in the military, and we had this big ceremony and I had to be formal and dressed-up, and I STILL bought the dress from the thrift shop.  Never worn it since.  So my friends are looking online and oohing and aahing over all these floral-y creations and I'm like - *facepalm* NOOOOO.

Jesus.

And apparently I need shoes too.  I have 7 pairs of boots, 2 pairs of trainers and one pair of sandals.  But no, I need shoes.  Real shoes.

*headdesk*

I think I need help getting through this.  Vodka is looking mighty good right about now.

Also, to compound things, The Parents are coming tomorrow to stay for Easter and for an indeterminate amount of time afterwards.  No, really.  I have no idea when they're going home, but I'm pretty sure they'll be here for a week at least.  And my mum, though I love her dearly, will take great glee in the fact that I need to BUY A FUCKING DRESS AND SHOES and she will happily drag me off to the shops.   Probably more than once, because I KNOW she has great taste, and I trust her to help me find something that doesn't look ridiculous, but damn, she is hard to please.

So.

Happy Easter, everyone.
