New! Pretty! Shiny!

I have a new laptop!!!!!!  \o/

I spent AGES trying to make sure I got the right one, reading all the specs, checking out computing magazines etc, then ended up getting the EXACT same laptop as we bought our daughter for Christmas.

Oh well at least I know how it works...

Of course, they look identical so I had to go and buy skins for them.  She has the TARDIS; I have gorgeous luminescent Angel wings:

I wonder where I got the idea for the wings...  *whistling innocently**

Computer fail. No time, no internet, no working keyboard.

Huh.  With all the family stuff going on, I simply don't have the time to get online as much as I'd like.  And when I do, my computer is Not Working.  It's a beat-up old laptop, connects to the internet when it feels like it, freezes up in the middle of important things (like updating Facebook and reading porn important e-mails) and now the left-hand keys are sticking so Q A and Z need to be hit twice before they'll work.  Makes typing very, very interesting.

I'm going to give up for a bit.  I'm looking at a pretty shiny new laptop and I will buy it as soon as I can divert enough money from the household grocery budget afford it by saving diligently.  Until then, I'm only breaking out the laptop for banking and email.  It's too much hassle.

need........ air..........

Oy.  Had a nasty asthma attack yesterday, I could NOT stop wheezing.  Phoned the doc after my usual meds didn't work, I'm now on oral steroids plus a horrible inhaler that gives me tremors.  Plus side: they worked.  Minus: I have to stay on them for five days.  Yay.

We did finally get my dad his birthday dinner, made him a fab cake and the whole restaurant sang happy birthday to him.  It was worth the wait.

Dear Life: Give us a break. Love, me. x

It's half term, and I was planning on lots of nice things, taking my daughter out for lovely trips and the buying of shiny!pretties and maybe the seeing of the seals again because they are Of The Cute.  AND it was my dad's birthday last week and we had planned a lovely meal at his favourite restaurant.

All plans are buggered.  Cancelled or postponed.  Because my uncle is in hospital and I don't have a car for half-term week )

I need to find something fun to do.

Seals! And Sam. And UKTV.

.... no, not the kind Sam broke.

We went on a boat yesterday to see the seals!  OoooOOO they were gorgeous.  A whole bunch (colony?  pack? wtf do you call a load of seals?)  It was FREEZING out there, but we circled just off the beach for nearly an hour and took loads of photos, and a seal hit the water and came up to LOOK AT US CRAZY HOOMANS.

And there was one itty bitty baby on the beach, waaay up there hiding behind Mom.  It was cute in the extreme but I couldn't get a decent close-up shot because the boat was pitching.

SEALS FTW!!!!!!!!!

Aaaand now I'm waiting for my friend to get back from the dentist, and we are going to sit down with coffee and chocolate and watch Sam, Interrupted, which I have to download and burn to DVD and watch DAYS after y'all because, you know, our TV SUCKS and is only just starting to show the FIRST EP OF SEASON 5.  Which also means I have to avoid my flist from Thursday til Monday because I don't wanna be spoiled.

Grr.

"Dear UK TV,

Get with the program.  BUY THE DAMN SERIES STRAIGHT AWAY, NOT SIX MONTHS LATE.

Yours irritatedly,

Lorin."

BTW, did you know that if you call the radio station whilst en route to the beach to get on a Seal Trip boat, and tell them it's your daughter's 12th birthday and the trip is a treat for her, and they then ANNOUNCE THIS including her full name and wish her a happy birthday ON AIR and also send you a personal text wishing you a great time and hoping you don't fall in (!), apparently this is NOT COOL and said daughter will be in a huff all day.

Hahahahahaha.  I WIN.

Writer's Block: Kill the music

[Error: unknown template qotd]
"The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" by Roberta Flack.  Oh. My. GOD.  Sloooooowly now - "..aaaaand laaast til the end of tiiiiime, my looooove".

My dad loved it and played it in the car when I was a kid.  No wonder I had motion sickness.  It's been re-recorded a bunch of times and they are all better than the original, but still whenever I hear it, I still hear in my head - "your face, Yoooouuuur faaaaace, YOOOOOOOOUUUUUR  FAAAAAAAAAAACE"

I'd listen to it all day for - oh I don't know, how much do I owe on my credit card?  $700 or thereabouts.

OK so I'm fickle.  Yeah.

In your face.

Labyrinth

... or rather, Labyrinthitis.

Is

Not

Fun.

I woke up yesterday and the room was spinning.  The doc diagnosed inflammation of the inner ear, so basically my whole balance is out of whack and I feel permanently drunk, without the fun of actually drinking.

To add insult to injury, the doc gave me anti-nausea tablets (it's actually an anti-psychotic drug, so apparently I'll be relatively sane while taking it, always a bonus) and said NO ALCOHOL while taking the tablets.  So not only do I feel drunk, I can't even have a shot of scotch to make me feel better about feeling drunk...

And she banned me from driving for at least a week.

In other news, my cat Bailey has either a mild infection or an allergy which makes him sneeze.  And sneeze.  And sneeze.  Apparently he's swallowed a squeaky toy at some point, because every sneeze is preceded by a squeak.  I am not laughing at him at all, nuh-huh.

itchy itchy itchy... thanks, Bob.

Oh my poor cats...   I've always bought Hartz flea spot-on; our local store hasn't had any for ages so I bought Bob Martins back in October.  My old boy Toffee (he's 15) started scratching about mid-November; he had some sore spots, I asked at the vets and they said if it wasn't fleas (I checked him: there was no sign of fleas at all) then it was probably a food allergy.  I changed his food, got all worried, kept checking him, gave him more Bob Martins just before Christmas - and lo and behold, found flea signs last week!  AND he has a bald spot where the Bob Martins was put on.  I had to wait til now to treat for the fleas as I had just dosed him with the spot-on, so today he's had a dose of flea meds, plus a flea collar, plus all his favourite spots have now been sprayed with flea treatment, AND my other cat Bailey has had a flea tablet which he was NOT IMPRESSED WITH (especially as I sat on his tail as I was holding him down).

So I have one cat with itchy sore spots and a bald spot on his shoulders; and another cat who isn't speaking to me, and my house smells of flea spray which is not really nasty but... it's definitely a 'smell'.

Bob Martins.  Flea-friendly, apparently.

Doctor! Doctor! er... who?

Happy New Year!  I would have posted yesterday but I was in a post-NewYearsEveParty coma.  You know, too much food, too much dancing, too little sleep.  Where were we for this wild time?  At my parent's house!  In their 70's but they know how to throw a party!  Go them!

I did emerge for a bit, at least for an hour or so - bye bye David, hello Matt!  I did get a bit teary-eyed, I have to admit.  Of course, I've been a fan since the Tom Baker days, so I've seen a fair few Doctors come and go, but I think Ten's been my favourite by a long way.

My sister-in-law in America can't watch until tonight, so she rang me begging for the Entire Story With Nothing Left Out.  Tell me everything, she said.  So I did.  At least, I gave her the edited highlights:

I would say there are spoilers under here but - really there aren't... )

Apparently I am an evil, evil person.  She is going to phone me after tonight's episode to tell me this.  It will be approximately 1:00am for me.  I love my sister-in-law.

Jobless! And WARM.

I got my eye surgery - OMG I can SEE! It's fabulous! The best *mumble mumble* thousand pounds I've ever spent.

Been absolute chaos ever since - my parents moved house right round the corner from us; the entire house needed renovating so along with still renovating OUR house we've been helping with theirs.

And I started work a month ago; turned in my notice four weeks later. The job I could deal with; the 3-mile round trip on a bicycle because no cars are allowed on the park was just too much. Fine in the nice weather but after two days of sleet and freezing wind, I thought I'd never be warm again. To everyone else who works there: good for you. I admire you. And I will continue to admire you, from afar, while in my nice warm cozy house.

What does SPN 5:03 sound like?

I'm having my laser eye surgery today.  I'll be getting my SPN 5:03 download around - oh, lunchtime-ish.  Right when I'll be in the middle of my surgery.

I'll be home a couple of hours later, and can't watch my shiny new show.

whimpers

I'll be listening to it, with my friend describing the action...

not quite the same, is it?

Homing pigeons FTW \o/

Ten days ago I bought a new car, called my insurance company - the RAC (kind of like AAA in the States) - and got cover.  We're military living overseas so we needed the insurance documents to register the car on base and to be able to do little minor things, like, you know, GET GAS.

Soooo - two days later and there are no documents in the mail - there's a nationwide postal strike and all mail is delayed.  I called the RAC, explained the situation, and asked if they could possible e-mail me a cover note.  They said - no, really, they did -

"Sorry, we don't have e-mail access."

WTF?  This is one of the biggest motoring organisations in the UK and they DON'T HAVE E-MAIL???

Hahahaha EPIC FAIL, RAC!!!! )

Wonder if she'll reply?

Am I too old to have a tantrum?

Sooo - after four months, the new house is still decorated in old-lady colours, except my daughters room which is a lovely lilac.  It's the only room which is finished.  I thought we would get our kitchen done this weekend BUT - we were laying the flooring and suddenly realised that the gorgeous big stone doorstep which is going just inside the door to the garden has to be laid BEFORE the laminate.  So after a good 6 hours solid work, we had to take it all up again.

We suck at planning.

On the plus side, I have 2 more coats of varnish to do and then I never have to varnish again.

....except I still have to paint.

*sigh*

OMG where did my life go?

So, we bought a house. Moved in at the start of May. Aaaaand - it's August, almost September, and the last four months have been one big ugly blur. Jeez, the amount of work it takes to fix up a house!!!

Yellow and green and pink oh my... )

Still, the house is starting to look good, and we finally have some time 'off' to do family-type things (so I can wear out lil'un and put her to bed early and read SPN porn till the early hours, got my priorities straight, uh-huh).

Except we have to head out tonight for my mum's birthday celebration tomorrow followed by mine on Tuesday, so I will likely be in a drunken stupor for the next four days.

Ah well, such is life    *g*

OMG EEEEWWWW

Picture this: travelling home from vacation with hubby, daughter and two cats.  Toffee spends the entire 2 hour trip asleep on my lap.  Bailey yowls nonstop for 20 mins as usual then settles down.  All is calm....

...then Bailey starts yowling again.  Long loud mrrrrOOOOOOOOOOOwww type yowling.  Try to calm him down, no go.  He's prowling round the backseat, won't settle, getting more agitated.  Start clock-watching: home in 40 minutes... home in 35 minutes....

Then Bailey jumps on the back window-shelf and we find out exactly why he's yowling.  He needs to GO.  And proceeds to do so.

I had to hand a plastic bag to daughter and, bless her, she scooped it all up without even a word of complaint.  Bailey settled right down and went to sleep and we had to drive 15 mins to a turn-off so we could dump the bag...

OMG we were trapped, gagging, for 15 mins in a car doing 60 and we couldn't even roll the windows down because, hello, 2 cats loose in the car...

y'all can stop laughing any time, you know...
